It’s not easy
By reading other posts on Medium, I thought for sure I would be a millionaire by my twentieth post.
Alas, here I am. I’m still broke and haven’t made a dime yet. Despite all the motivation and success stories I have read on here I still haven't seen anything similar for myself.
And that's okay.
On January 2, I wrote that I was writing everyday of the year to improve my consistency. That's still true two weeks later. I’m not sure if writing is in my future but I do know that writing everyday will improve my consistency.
showing up every single day is not easy. Things get in the way. Friends and family want time with you. You get sick. You have obligations at your job. Life throws all kinds of curve balls at you.
That's why I am proud of myself for even making it this far. Most people don’t do anything on a consistent basis. They may try something for a day or two but give up after hitting that first tough day, sometimes referred to as the third day.
I have had a few of these days myself already. I’ve had days where I didn’t want to write a single word. I wanted to go out with friends and have fun. But I knew that’s exactly what most people would do in my situation.
That’s why I sat my ass down and started writing even though I didn't feel like it. That’s why I am sitting home alone right now on a Saturday night writing this post while everyone I know is posting their fun times on Snapchat and Instagram.
I am committed to getting more consistent.
One thing I have learned when I hit those tough times is to just do it anyway. You aren’t gonna feel like putting in the work everyday. That’s the most important time to do it.
Like I said, most people in that position quit. They decide to go out. They think it’s the weekend, I deserve it.
When you are in the position that I am in and haven’t made a dime yet, you don’t deserve shit. That’s why I am here writing alone on a Saturday night.
When you don’t want to do it, just work on what you need to get better at to succeed.
I have also learned that the road is only going to get tougher. I have written and posted for two weeks in a row. I have a lot more weeks to go before I hit the year mark.
And times will only get tougher. There will be plenty of more chances to mess up and miss a day of writing. I intend for that not happen. That’s why I have learned to make a schedule for my witting.
After I get home from my regular job, I usually have something to eat. Around 5 or 530pm is when the writing starts. I always try to be done by 7pm. If I’m not done by 7pm, that's when the alarms start going off in my hand and I feel like I need to write immediately.
While 20 posts isn't a lot, I plan on using what I have learned to continue to write everyday. We’ll see where I am a year from now.
It’s not to late to start the one year challenge. You can jump in at anytime, it doesn't have to be January 1st.
Keep consistent.
