Grow up.

If you have already gone through puberty, you are done growing without effort.

Nature has completed its job of forming you into an adult. At least, it has done the most it can do on its own. From here on out, it’s up to you to grow.

Sadly, most people chose not to grow and develop anymore after nature takes its course. They stay the exact same person from the age of 20 until they die. It could be 40 plus years of no growth.

I don’t know about you, but that’s not the life for me. If you feel that way too, we are in the minority.

Check out these statistics from 2019.

33% of high school graduates never read another book the rest of their lives and 42% of college grads never read another book after college. 70% of US adults have not been in a bookstore in the last five years and 80% of US families did not buy or read a book last year.

It’s sad to say, but people don’t read anymore. Reading is one of the best ways you can grow as a person.

Reading gives you new ideas and allows you to look at things from a different angle.

The worse part is that after school, you have full control of what you read. You don’t have to spend your time reading a book that you don’t really care about. With so many books in the world, there is something of interest for all.

Unfortunately, people would rather scroll social media and watch Netflix.

We are creatures of habit.

People who buy one book in a year most likely will buy more. People who watch one Netlfix series in a year will watch more.

The fact that almost no one reads anymore makes it tough to be a writer. The short attention spans people have made it almost impossible to be a successful writer.

I don’t say this to make you want to quit or be negative.

I tell you this so that you know what you’re up against. Despite the statistics, more than one million books are published in the United States every year.

This number goes up every year as it gets easier and easier to publish books. Literally anyone can publish a book now on Amazon. All you need is an internet connection.

Basically, there are a ton of books published every year despite the fact that almost no people read. And of all the books that are published, which ones get all the attention?

The ones that get the attention are the ones written by famous people. These include famous authors, musicians, athletes, etc.

For someone to read your book would be incredible. For someone to spend money on it would be a miracle.

That was the bad news. Here’s the good news.

The good news is that if you are a writer, chances are you are also a reader. This means unlike most people in America, you are growing and developing every year.

Your reading will make you a better writer. Working on your writing skills will make people more likely to read your books.

Once you have the skill of writing down, the next step is to be able to market your book so that you can make money.

That’s a huge topic on its own. There have been plenty of books written on the topic, which is more good news for you.

Continue to read and write.

Continue to read and buy books every year. Use what you learn and apply it to your life. If you don’t like the book, put it down and buy another.

Continue to grow even after puberty ends for you. Most people choose not to do this.

By continuing to read and grow, you will be light years ahead of your peers. You will be doing what most people refuse to put the time in. Better yourself every year.

Grow up.
