Consistency Is Your Most Valuable Skill (+ 5 Problems That Hold Most People Back)
Know what they are and how to avoid them
Consistency is key.
It matters more than any other skill combined.
The longer you do something for, the higher your chance of success in that field.
Take your worse skill. Let’s say it’s public speaking. Find people to speak to for five minutes every day for the next five years. I guarantee you will get better.
You and I both know this.
So why do you continue to not follow this rule?
There are a lot of reasons people aren't consistent or chose to stop doing something.
We usually hear the following reasons as the most common.
- I don’t have enough time
- I don’t have enough money
- That task is impossible
- I’m not good enough
- I need to do this other thing first
For the most part, these are the reasons why people chose to quit a certain task.
Here are ways to beat all of that.
No time
Stop looking at what you don’t have and start looking at what you do. Use your available time to do what you can.
In the end, working for 20 minutes every day is better than someone who works for 10 hours one day but does nothing the next three days.
Your consistency will allow you to outperform the competition in the long run. Do not underestimate it.
No money
If you have the internet, you have everything you need to start a business right now. The no-money excuse is no longer viable.
This might have been good in the past when advertising was a much harder business to get into, but this is not true anymore.
If you have internet, you can start a business. Pay your wifi bill and buy a $200 laptop and get to work.
If you have to, cancel your Netflix subscription for a year and use that money to buy your computer and internet.
Or just go to the library.
The task is impossible
No, it’s not.
Listen to Earl Nightingale. He was one of the founding fathers of the whole self-discipline area and motivational coaches.
Specifically, you should listen to his audio tape called “The Strangest Secret.”
It’s all about the power of the mind and how to gain everything you want in life. Who wouldn’t want that?
It’s on Spotify and Apple Podcast. It’s also on Youtube. Listen to it every day if you have to and really listen to what he’s saying.
I’m not good enough
Read the above point.
Invest in yourself. Spend the money on books or coaches to get you in the right mindset.
There are courses you can take all about confidence and mental toughness.
Invest in yourself and it will pay you back ten times over.
If you don’t have the money, YouTube is a great source.
Specifically, search for Dre Baldwin.
He’s a former pro athlete tunend business owner who is an expert in mental toughness.
This other thing needs to get done first
Prioritize the right things.
If it’s not taking you closer to your goal, why are you doing it?
Of course, it’s alright to blow off steam once in a while and have fun. We are all human and need to recharge once in a while.
However, if you are consistently spending your time doing things that are not getting you closer to your goal, don’t be surprised in five years when you’re in the same spot.
Prioritize what absolutely needs to get done. Do this daily.
Even if it’s one thing every day, make sure it’s important and is taking you in the direction you want to go in.
The bottom line
If you follow the advice from above and have the right mentality, you have won half the battle.
Once you are in the right mindset and have some basic principles in place, there is only one thing left to be done.
Be consistent.
When you are consistent in your work and are doing the thing you do every day, you will get better.
Remember to think long-term. Success doesn’t come overnight.
There will be days when you want to give up.
This is what most people do. You never hear from these people again.
Don’t be like them. Accomplish everything you want in life.
Be consistent.
